MODEL T FORD CLUB OF CENTRAL FLORIDA

April 30, 2008
Dear Model T’ers Everywhere,
“A party driving in a large eight cylinder car pulled up behind another machine. One of the ladies in the party, almost suffocated with dust, said: "For heaven’s sake, why don’t you pass that car?" "Oh, what’s the use; that’s a Ford, and there are hundreds of them ahead of us." (Funabout Fords, by J.J. White, The Howell Co., 1915)
I hope that this newsletter finds all well with everyone. The above picture came from a movie currently in the theaters. LEATHERHEADS is a movie about the beginnings of professional football in America. It stars George Clooney and Renee Zellwenger. It isn’t exactly the best film I have seen lately, but it is worth a trip to the theatre just to see all of the Model T’s in it. It was filmed in the Carolina’s and most of the cars in the movie belong to locals there. One critic said the following, and I think it pretty much sums up the movie. “An amiable, good looking if largely inconsequential comedy that coasts on its stars' charms.”
Our May meeting should be an exciting one as we will all be getting a lesson in the proper adjustment of a Ford coil presented by our very own Jack Mahaffey. He will be bringing his hand crank coil tester, and will be adjusting our coils to Ford specs. I know that Jack has done this for our club in the past and we all appreciate his help in getting our cars to run at their best. All that we have to bring to the meeting is our coils, and Jack will work his magic right before our own eyes.
John Dwyer is busily putting together our membership roster for 2008, we should have it ready to pass out at the June meeting. We will be mailing out the roster to anyone that is not able to be in attendance at that meeting. The production of the roster is a major undertaking and I would like to thank John for all of his hard work both this year and last.
To celebrate the 100th. anniversary of the Model T Ford, Carl Begy and Stan Warren of the Reel to Reel Recording Studio LLC are offering a 2 disk commemerative DVD set titled “Commercial Model T Fords” and “Those Wild and Wacky Model T Fords”. The price is just $39.95 plus tax and they can be reached at rtrrs@aol.com . They have donated a copy of the set to our club’s library, I have seen both films and they are very well done.
Mike Story brought a great book to our last meeting titled “Ford Model T: The Car That Put the World on Wheels” by Lindsay Brooke. The book retails for $40.00 we can purchase it though for about $25.00 with an order of ten or more. Please see me at the next meeting if you are interested.
Jack and Barbara Mahaffey will once again be hosting us for lunch after the Independence Day parade in Geneva. I know that everyone has always had a great time participating in the old fashioned parade. More information will follow soon regarding this event.
We meet every month except December on the second Thursday at 7p.m. at the Jean Rhein Casselberry Library of Seminole County, located at 215 N. Oxford Road in sunny Casselberry, Florida. Our next meeting will be May 8, 2008 at 7 p.m.

David Boe
